2nd International Congress on Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Toledo, Spain)

March 14, 2016

The 2nd International Congress on Extra Virgin Olive Oil will be held in Toledo, Spain on March 15 and March 16, 2016. The theme for the conference is “The Great Discovery.” The main objective of the conference is to address the impact on consumers as the spectrum of extra virgin olive oils in flavors and aromas available today, as well as their uses in food, have evolved significantly from the traditional olive oils consumers are used to.

The conference will also cover the following topics:

  • innovation within the production process
  • impact of olive oils in cuisine
  • new consumer trends, and
  • health and scientific discoveries related to olive oil.

Eryn Balch, executive vice president of the North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA), will speak on a panel about “commitment to excellence” in olive oil.

The conference is organized by QvExtra! International, a private non-profit organization founded in 2013 by fifteen Spanish extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) producers to promote excellence in EVOO. QvExtra! hosted the first International Congress in Cordoba, Spain in December 2013, during which time they unveiled a new quality certification seal program, the first of its kind originating in Spain. Spain is the largest producer of olive oil in the world.

Toledo, Spain, where the conference will be held, is known for its rich culture and history of culinary tradition. The city was designated “gastronomic capital of Spain” for 2016.
